Circulate San Diego is busy this summer with pop-up events taking place all over the City and County. The pop-ups, mobile and temporary in nature, are meant to engage residents with refreshments, fun, and creativity while providing an opportunity to learn and give feedback on local projects.
As part of Circulate’s ongoing Spotlight blog series, we will start highlighting unique pop-ups that are part of innovative projects occurring in San Diego. One project in particular, the Balboa Station Plan for the Mid-Coast Trolley, has been utilizing pop-engagement through late spring and early summer with an especially relevant event over the July 4th weekend.
Circulate San Diego staff members pitched their shade tent and carried refreshments, snacks, surveys, and large format map boards out to the start of the newly paved Interim Rose Canyon Path. Here staff refreshed and engaged hikers, joggers, and cyclists for around four hours. They discussed and engaged participants on the details of the projects and how each project alternative appeals to them as active transportation enthusiasts.
After fueling up the Rose Canyon Path users, Circulate staff packed up their gear and community feedback which included dozens of comments and around 20 completed surveys. These comments and survey results from active transportation users will now reflect the feelings of residents that may not normally participate in the planning process for the Balboa Station Plan.
This one pop-up combined with the numerous others for this project is just a small part of the pop-up engagement efforts taking place at Circulate. The next pop-up for the Balboa Station Plan is scheduled to take place during the North PB Sip ‘N Stroll on Sunday, July 24th, 2016. About Balboa Station Plan
The City of San Diego is developing a specific plan for the area around the future trolley station at Balboa Avenue. The purpose of this plan is to engage the Pacific Beach and Clairemont communities and develop a strategy that addresses future land uses, transportation, and other enhancements designed to improve access to the station and surrounding areas.
