SAN DIEGO (August 14, 2014)----The MOVE Alliance is pleased to announce its endorsement of 5030 College Avenue Apartments, the proposed Capstone Development Partners student housing project in the College Area. The project provides housing close to the San Diego State University campus in a walkable, bikeable, transit-oriented, urban infill location.
“This project has tremendous potential for encouraging residents to take transit and ride bikes rather than to use other vehicles,” said Jim Stone, Executive Director of Circulate San Diego, the parent organization of MOVE Alliance.
5030 College Avenue Apartments aims to reduce the need to drive though a variety of strategies, including free transit passes for residents who purchase a parking space, a reward program for infrequent drivers, and several amenities for bicyclists. Specifically, the project shows its commitment to reducing car trips by providing secure storage for at least 91 bikes in a convenient location within the parking garage, secure bike racks at the building entrance for guests, and a bike share program for residents located at the building entrance.
The project’s central location and proximity to SDSU, shopping, and restaurants, coupled with a tenant base that is more likely to be physically active, makes biking a natural choice for a preferred transportation option.
5030 College Avenue Apartments, which provides 95 units a quarter mile from campus, has earned the MOVE Alliance endorsement based upon the commitment to facilitate the use of sustainable modes of transportation through an innovative transportation demand management program.
5030 College Avenue Apartments is making biking and walking the easy way to get to class for SDSU students who want to live off campus but still be able to access all the academic and social amenities that SDSU provides. For these reasons, the MOVE Alliance is proud to endorse the Capstone Development Partners project.
